The concept behind ErectADirectory is simple, build a directory structure that allows users to modify the pages to best suit thier needs. Why would we do this? Well, users submitting their sites to a certain category have knowledge of that particular topic, in many cases much more so than we do.
By allowing anyone to add or modify the information on a page it adds to the character
of our directory. It also creates a unique opportunity for developers or promoters who
are here looking for a resource to bring traffic to your site. Our pages will not
be chalked full of links with no other "on the page" text than the short descriptions
surrounding the links. We want site owners, browsers, administrators and everyone else to
add to the charm of our site. It helps create great content! Loads of yummy, key word rich
food for googlebot, slurp and the others.
Community edited information is the basic building block of ErectADirectory. We want our web site to be a
valuable resource for internet users looking for information and links to thier
topic of choice. We will whet their appetite with useful information and get them in
the mood to follow some links on the page to find their way to you.
Initially we wanted to mold the site in a wiki environment but decided that it would be to difficult to moderate the flow of information. We did not want the general public to have access to create whatever they wanted (serious spam problem). We do however want our directory to stand head and shoulders above most other directories. How did we do this . . .
By giving users the ability to modify the "on the page content" we gave our directory much more substance than other directories. There are 2 concepts behind search engine optimization.

Regardless which school of thought you believe in, our directory is the place to be listed. Being a directory, we offer tremendous value to sites that are included. To further this value we decided that we needed to break the mold of the common directory. ErectADirectory.com is not just a site with a bunch of links. We strive to be better than that.
We do not know everything about everything, so us coming up with unique content for each page in our directory would not be the smart way to approach the "content" issue. However, if you are submitting a site to the category of "Business Networking" we expect that you do know a few things about this topic. We encourage users to update the page they are listed on (or other pages that you have knowledge of) in order to add content value to the page.
You (hopefully) are aware that the content on the page has a lot to do with the value of the link to your site. So make the page more valuable by entering information about the subject and make the link to your site worth more than just any average link.
